The short version

We are not a tour operator, a travel agency or a boat company. We do not sell tickets, take payments or act as an agent for anyone.
Who does what
The boats themselves are not sold here at all. The Hakone Sightseeing Cruise is run by Odakyu Hakone and the eastern-shore boats by Izuhakone; you buy those tickets at the port counter, or with a pass, and no commission exists on either.
The guided day trips are sold and operated by third parties — several operators, each named with its product ID on its own page — through a booking platform that holds your payment, your confirmation and your cancellation rights.
What the commission does not buy
It does not buy the running order. Our declared pick is the cheapest and highest-rated tour on the page, and the fact that most of them charge extra for the boat is stated on the front page rather than buried, which is the opposite of what a commission-maximising page would do.
It does not buy a place on the page either. Tours are here because they reach Lake Ashi and hold a usable rating; the one with the weakest rating is labelled as such.
Ratings and reviews
Star ratings and review counts are the operators' own numbers, read off the listing on the date shown, not averages we have calculated. Quoted reviews are short excerpts from verified bookings with the reviewer's first name, country and month as published. We do not write, commission or edit them.
Prices
Tour prices are the lowest adult shared-group rate visible on the listing when we read it, in US dollars, and they move — several of these listings were showing a promotional rate below their standard price on the day we checked. Boat fares and pass prices are in yen, from the operator's published tables. Whatever is on the platform at checkout is what you pay.
